GUEST OF HONOR: SPAIN
The Hispanic Culture Film Festival 2019, is proud to host Spain as the guest country. From James Bond’s adventures in Die Another Day to Arya Stark’s life in Braavos in Game of Thrones, Spain is the home and inspiration for a multitude of films.
The country’s incredible architecture has been used to show different places at different times, including 12th Century Jerusalem in Kingdom of Heaven, Planet Naboo in Star War Episode II; Attack of the Clones and even a futuristic robot colony in Doctor Who. Its impressive landscapes have been transformed into the American Wild West in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, the Siberian Steppes in Doctor Zhivago and the underworld in Clash of the Titans.
But Spain not only serves as the host to great movies. The country is also home of many actors and directors, including Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Amenábar, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Antonio Banderas. Spanish films like The Orphanage, Bad Education, A Monster Calls, and Pan’s Labyrinth, have made Spanish film culture one of the most impressive in the world.
Spain’s significant connection to the city of St. Augustine, along with its influential art, music, food and culture, make the country the perfect guest at this year’s Hispanic Culture Film Festival.
